Recent Personal Shopping and Fashion Styling By Notable Styles!

I recently completed a fashion project for a female rap artist by the name of Ty. She was shooting her first video off of a compilation album entitled A League Of Their Own.

The single is entitled, "Say Yeah", the hook is performed by Ms. Fields and the track has an urban rock vibe.

I performed personal shopping and fashion styling services for all the looks worn by Ty. The purple jumpsuit was sponsored by Juice Mami. A couple of the outfits were embellished and detailed by Kyla Johnson.

BIG NEWS of the Week!! Nordstrom Downtown Indy Says Goodbye!!

Since about Wednesday, of last week, I have had several sidebar conversations, with co-workers, my mother, one of my bff's (a stylist at Nordstrom Las Vegas) and other people about the "horrific" news of Nordstrom Downtown, Indianapolis, Indiana closing at the end of July, 2011.

Now, I have always wanted to be a downtown girl. Even considering the fact that I may be a mother soon, my ideas about living downtown didn't falter. The point that Nordstrom was there was definitely one of the reasons of my desiring downtown living. Nice shoes, cool accessories, a great makeup department, a sophisticated clothing selection..........I could go on.

These are the facts:

1. Nordstrom leaving, means downtown Indianapolis, will not have any other retailer *specifically a tri-level retailer* that will cover the brand range, product range and price range that Nordstrom did.

2. A vacant spot of this size and magnitude is completely an eye sore, for residents and tourists alike.

3. Every single person can't possibly shop at the Nordstrom at Keystone Crossing or even have the need or desire to. I personally don't live closer to the Keystone Store, so, how could that Nordstrom be more convenient for me.

4. Nordstrom Rack is scheduled to arrive to the Rivers Edge Shopping Center on the Indianapolis, IN north east side in September of this year, and a Rack is hardly going to satisfy the void of the downtown Nordie.

5. Downtown residents could use a store closer to home for lifestyle goods offered by a Target, IKEA, and stores of the like, but, Im not particular that I would want to see that downtown as a stand-alone store, without an additional upscale premium apparel retailer.

I feel like this, if Nordstrom is not replaced with a Neiman Marcus or Bloomingdales our downtown fashion scene will be taking steps backward in establishing a culture of fashion moving forward, life moving forward. Even a Lord and Taylor or another Macy's that carries more high end brands than the general local Macy's store carries could thrive and be interesting to residents and tourists.

But maybe the problem stems further then the Nordstrom shoppers being cut in half since the opening of Nordstrom on the northside. What happened to all of the shoppers in downtown Indianapolis? The visions and images we saw of women and men, walking to shop in the 90s-00's?

I have been told by many that the lunch time shoppers from the surrounding downtown area were layed off due to the economy, from four specific big downtown businesses: Lilly, AUL, Anthem and AT&T. And if this information is correct then yes, that may affect sales, quite a bit, Nordstrom.

I wish Simon Property Group the best in obtaining a proper replacement downtown, in several of the vacancies. Think outside the box, and select 3 good retailers, one in the Nordstrom class, one that can help out the downtown Indiana wholesale district and a home goods store, to attract more people to live downtown.

Real Life, Real Times, Real Beyonce!!

There is an uber organic video clip of Beyonce rehearsing 1 + 1. The newest single from her upcoming album. And I must say if you are a Beyonce fan or just a fan of good music, this clip is a MUST SEE!

This clip was made available to the public via Beyonce's husband, Jay-Z's new website called Life + Times in an article entitled "Pregrame". I am assuming that "Pregame" is referring to the act of rehearsing before Beyonce's American Idol performance of the song.

Jay-Z did not only successfully capture this moment of rehearsal without microphones and effects, but everyone in the room is obviously enjoying the music as much as I did. Between Bey's voice, the soulful sound of the background and the keyboardist, I got chills several times.

Link here to the Life + Times article and post of this video clip.

Here is an excerpt of Jay's comments about the video, "Sometimes you need perspective. You’ve been right in front of greatness so often that you need to step back and see it again for the first time.......... No effects."

2 Hot Dress Picks from Arden B!!!

With the Indiana summer weather being a little sticky, sometimes moist and definitely humid, here are two HOT dresses from Arden B that I find sexy, fun and appropriate for a fun night out on the town. If you are going somewhere a little less trendy and more sophisticated, you can add a cardigan to this dress and switch your shoe from a sexy sandal to a sophisticated summer peep toe pump, platform or mule and be upscale appropriate.

Why are these two dresses good selections?

Because the two tone dress is full of light colors, is form fitted and strapless to make you cooler on any summer night.

The flower cut out dress has more bright color accents on a darker dress base with a back cut out that adds appeal to an otherwise basic dress shape.

Both dresses are made of a polyester spandex blend, which will give the wearer and added appeal.

Two Tone Dress
Price - $79

Flower Cut Out Dress
Price - $69 (limited quantities available)

Billboard Awards Photos!!

Last night the Billboard Awards took place in Las Vegas, Nevada and brought out all kinds of stars. This is the first awards ceremony that I've witnessed in a while where the fashion was somewhat original and unique but still very wearable or in other words was in a Ready-to-Wear state. I appreciate the artists, stylists and glam teams that were involved to make this Billboard Award fashion sense happen.

My favorite look of the night was Rihanna in the All white ladies suit, with the nude pointy toe pump. Visit/link in to my Notable Styles and More Facebook Page to see a full shot of Rihanna in her suit and more images that are not included here.

Marc by Marc Jacobs For Under $40!!!

As a young lady who is somewhat into name brands, and fashion and lifestyle brands as a whole, when I notice a name brand product that is heavenly discounted or ticketed at a price point that I am comfortable with, I immediately get excited about the product.

I ran across a pair of Marc by Marc Jacobs stud earrings on, that were priced at $32. As a shopper, I always find ways to purchase top brands without breaking the bank and I see this as another opportunity to do so. Why not buy a pair of simple, low-priced, stud earrings that are Marc by Marc Jacobs? Marc even was kind enough to give us three color options in gold, hematite or silver. Choose one.

psnob: An Indy Friend Goes Nationwide!

Several people in Indianapolis have mentioned the brand psnob to me over the past couple of years.

This fact leads me to believe that Rebecca Robinson the designer of psnob, is from the land of the corn and the Motor Speedway, just like myself.

I am uberly excited that an Indianapolis bred fashion designer with background in fine art and textures can create, one of a kind handbags that are hand painted, hand sewn and that look so great!

The handbags are created in three categories of fine art: Prima (one of a kind), Imprimatur (limited edition print) and Ultima (made to order). Pricing ranges from around $100 - $1200.

Psnob also branched out last year into t-shirts which were sold for $25 and a portion of the proceeds went to a community charity in Atlanta.

For more info on the psnob brand visit

Summer Fashion Dresses!

I have attached a couple of pictures of Jennifer Anniston and Ginnifer Goodwin rocking "heatwave" dresses by Vivienne Westwood and Herve Leger by Max Azria respectively.

These two looks stood out to me because they are demure in their own way. The relaxed keyhole and color of Jennifer A's dress is amazing.

And of course, I love the form fitted Herve Leger on Ginnifer G. The detailing of this dress is unique and fun.

This summer ladies, try to take your dress game up a notch. Stay a-waaaay from the solid blacks and grays and opt for a "bright" fun colored or uniquely detailed summer dress look that will reflect your bright and fun attitude or either by wearing the garment, the clothes may convince you to have a bright and fun attitude. :)

Do You Multitask? Is It Good or Bad?

I have recently been working on honing in my focus on one thing at a time and eliminating distractions. This theme has led me to information about multitasking and that performing more than one thing at a time, is not as beneficial as some of us may have been taught. The more things that you can do at once, equals the more things that you can do, is a statement that I remember hearing during my youth.

This small statement is actually not true based on some scientific studies. Multitasking can do more harm than good, by changing the way that your brain reacts during tests and also by making it easier for one to become easily distracted more frequently.

Read an excerpt below from a article written in 2009 entitled, "Drop that Blackberry! Multitasking may be harmful". Click the title to be taken to the full article.

Specifically, heavy multitaskers are more easily distracted by irrelevant information than those who aren't constantly in a multimedia frenzy, according to the study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

One reason may be because the multitaskers tend to retain the distracting information in their short-term memory, which affects their ability to focus, compared with people who don't check their e-mail while talking on the phone and sneaking in some online shopping.

"This study adds to a growing body of literature that says, in general, that multitasking is going to be problematic for people, that it does compromise productivity, and that its consequences can be quite severe in situations like driving," says David W. Goodman, M.D., the director of the Adult Attention Deficit Disorder Center of Maryland, in Baltimore, who was not involved in the research.

**Are you a multitasker? Did this article inspire you want to reconsider your approach to performing tasks?**

Another interesting article about multitasking.

Color Blocking Is In!

I like these Asos shoes for two reasons! One - I'm totally digging the color placement and the way it brings all of the colors together in a fun, creative, and stylish way.

Two - I like the softer platform and squarer non - stiletto high heel. Very, funky!

What do you think of these shoes?
